The BFA (British Focusing Association) Focusing skills course is a complete and thorough foundation course in the art and skills of solo Focusing and companioning other Focusers. Learning Focusing supports cultivation of a paradigm shift in self acceptance while gently rewiring survival stress autonomic nervous system states which affect physical and mental health.

My unique style of teaching is based on building capacity to deepen connection to who we are as perfect beings in flow and life force energy. We learn to ‘be the space’ to hold all our unaccompanied and unmet life experiences by trusting body wisdom and communication.

The 50 – 60 hour online skills training comprises experiential learning and practice. Completing the certificate enables you to join The Irish Focusing Network to meet more focusers weekly in community.

Focusing Skills Training

Two 10-Week Online Modules

50–60 Hours of Interactive, Experiential Learning

Develop a lifelong embodied practice while earning your British Focusing Association (BFA) Focusing Skills Certificate.

This training is designed for anyone who wants to deepen self-awareness, strengthen relationships, and learn a practical, compassionate way of meeting life’s challenges. Whether you are joining for personal growth or as a professional wishing to bring Focusing into your work, you’ll learn in a supportive online community through guided practice, reflection, demonstrations, and partner exercises.

By the end of both modules, you will have completed the requirements for the BFA Focusing Skills Certificate and developed a solid foundation in Inner Relationship Focusing.

Building a Relationship with Yourself

The first module introduces you to the art of Solo Focusing—a gentle, embodied practice of listening inwardly with curiosity, kindness, and respect.

Week by week, you’ll develop the core skills that allow Focusing to grow naturally into an organic way of living rather than simply another technique. As your confidence grows, you’ll learn to trust your body’s wisdom and discover that it often knows the next small step before your thinking mind does.

Solo Focusing offers a compassionate way to tune into your inner world through gentle self-enquiry. You may bring a specific question, an issue that feels stuck, or something that keeps triggering you emotionally. It may relate to your relationships, work, health, creativity, decision-making, or a goal that never quite seems to move forward.

Rather than analysing or trying to solve the problem, you’ll learn how to pause, listen deeply, and allow fresh insights and new possibilities to emerge from your felt sense.

Throughout this module you will learn to:

  • Develop a regular Solo Focusing practice.

  • Recognise and welcome the felt sense.

  • Listen to your body with curiosity and compassion.

  • Build trust in your own inner knowing.

  • Work gently with difficult emotions and inner blocks.

  • Discover new perspectives on situations that feel stuck.

  • Develop greater emotional resilience and self-compassion.

  • Bring Focusing into everyday life as an ongoing resource for wellbeing.

By the end of Module One, many participants describe feeling more grounded, less reactive, and more connected to themselves and the direction their lives are naturally wanting to unfold.

Listening with Another

The second module builds on your Solo Focusing skills by introducing the practice of Companion Focusing.

Focusing is deeply relational. Learning to accompany another person—and to receive the presence of a compassionate companion—can profoundly deepen your own Focusing process.

You’ll learn how to create a safe, non-directive space where another person’s inner process can unfold at its own pace. Rather than offering advice or interpretation, you’ll discover the power of empathic listening, reflective language, and trusting the wisdom of the other person’s felt sense.

Through regular partnered practice, you’ll gain confidence in both companioning and being companioned, while continuing to deepen your own embodied awareness.

During this module you will learn to:

  • Companion another person’s Focusing process with presence and sensitivity.

  • Use reflective listening to support unfolding awareness.

  • Recognise the difference between helping and accompanying.

  • Deepen trust in the body’s innate movement towards healing and growth.

  • Navigate inner conflict with greater ease.

  • Explore relational Focusing and embodied communication.

  • Build confidence in practising Focusing with others.

By the end of Module Two, you’ll have established a strong foundation in both Solo and Companion Focusing, enabling you to continue your own practice and share Focusing with others in everyday life or within your professional work.

Focusing Skills Training BFA

My Approach

My strength as a Focusing teacher lies in creating a gentle, supportive scaffold that helps people reconnect with the wisdom of their own bodies.

Learning Focusing is a gradual unfolding. I offer a clear structure that enables participants to build confidence step by step while always encouraging trust in their own inner experience. Rather than teaching a technique to be mastered, I support the development of an embodied practice that becomes a natural way of relating to yourself and the world.

A trauma-informed perspective underpins everything I teach. I understand that our bodies carry the imprint of our life experiences and that protective responses develop for good reasons. This means we work at a pace that honours each person’s nervous system, cultivating safety, choice, curiosity, and self-compassion rather than pushing for change.

My intention is to create a learning environment where you feel deeply listened to, supported, and empowered to discover your own inner knowing. From this place, lasting change emerges naturally—through relationship with yourself, your body, and your felt sense.
